Ministry is about service. It is the practical
application of the call to "love one another as I have loved
you".
It is reaching out to others, being willing to
give of your time, energy and talents in order to make visible
the love of God in the world in which we live.
We are all called to exercise the ministry we
hold as priest, prophet, king, because we are made, confirmed
and empowered to be that, through our baptism. As Vatican II
says:
“Through baptism the lay faithful are made one body with
Christ and are established among the people of God. They are, in
their own way, made sharers in the priestly, prophetic and
kingly office of Christ. They carry out their own part in the
mission of the whole Christian people with respect to the church
and the world.”
(Lumen Gentium #31).
If we are to live our lives as real
Christians, then we need to understand that we are to do as
Jesus did:- reach out to the poor, the lonely, the impoverished.
We need to know that the words of Luke 4:18 are addressed to us:
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; he has
anointed me to tell the good news to the poor. He has sent me to
announce release to the prisoners and recovery of sight to the
blind, to set oppressed people free,
Our ministries - the works of our hands - are
the ways we commit to spreading the good news that the kingdom
of God is among us and in us. That is evangelization.
