Diamond Jubilees

1 July 2015 | General Interest

It was a privilege to be with Sr Joan Westblade LCM and Sr Martina Rice LCM on July 1st as they celebrated their Diamond Jubilee (60) years of Religious Profession in the Little Company of Mary – to celebrate lives of love well-lived.

In 1952 both these women chose the LCM spirit as their spirit, the way of life, their way. Each one unique, both Joan and Marti sought to express Love outpoured, the Calvary spirit for a broken world. Their message of love has been carried in ministry to Timor Leste, Korea and to the Traditional Owners of our land, our indigenous brothers and Sisters, as well as many places of Australia.

Their life mottos are fitting:
Joan “Be it done unto me”
-the way of the little one, the disadvantaged, the persecuted and the outcast.

Marti “Thou in me and I in Thee”
A deep abiding indwelling that turns face, heart and hands to the Christ in the other.

Together with LCM Sisters, family and friends at a Eucharist of Celebration, followed by lunch at the Southern Cross Club Yarralumla, their life journey was remembered with gratitude. Having been blessed by the gift of their lives, the Gathering, on behalf of all LCM Sisters prayed in blessing for Marti and for Joan: a blessing of the past, the present and the yet to be.
