Diamond Jubilee - Sr Mary Treacy LCM

Sr Mary Treacy
The 8th October dawned brightly for Mary as she awoke to a much anticipated Jubilee celebration. Although the actual jubilee was the 11th October, Mary chose to have it on the 8th so that her family and friends could celebrate with her. There had been a great deal of preparation and Mary had gone to Melbourne the week before so that she could spend time with her family and the LCM sisters.
Mary’s great love of her family was very evident as was her joy and excitement at being “home” and celebrating with those close to her. Mary was joined by the LCM Sisters from Melbourne, her sisters from her community at Caringbah and Srs Jennifer and Kathleen representing Province Leadership.
The Eucharist Celebration was held at Holy Eucharist Parish Church, East Malvern (at the Saturday vigil parish mass) and was concelebrated by Fathers Ray Scanlon CSS and Frank Ferrie CSS (both of whom shared ministry experiences in Korea with Mary). During the Mass Mary renewed her Vows and received a Papal blessing from Pope Francis. It was very special for Mary to be able to share this celebration not only with her family, friends and LCM sisters but with the Parish Community of Holy Eucharist as it had been her family church for many years .Father Ray gave the final blessing in two languages(Korean and English) acknowledging the many years Mary had spent in Korea.
The celebration continued at the east Malvern RSL Club. Sr Francis was the MC for the evening.
Sr Jennifer Barrow ,acting Province Leader reflected on Mary’s many years of ministry to the people especially in Korea. She spoke of her experience when visiting the sisters in Korea of how Mary would take her to visit the people she was caring. The compassion and gentleness shown by Mary to these people was mirrored in their faces. they loved to see Mary coming.
Both Mary’s brothers proposed toasts to both Mary and the Little Company of Mary along with a tale or two!
Mary’s response was marked by her simplicity and her heartfelt appreciation of everyone there (and those who were absent). When asked if it was all she had hoped for she said “more “she could not have asked for anything else.
To top it all off her football team also won the Grand Final Congratulations Mary, enjoy the years ahead.
May you continue to be blessed as you minister to God's people
