Living the LCM SpiritRead our stories
Thank God always for the happiness and beauty of life - it is beautiful.
Venerable Mary Potter's Last Words.
Welcome - a life of prayer, compassion and presence.
The Little Company of Mary is an international congregation of Catholic women Religious who have committed their lives to pray and care for the suffering and dying of the world.
Founded in Nottingham, England in 1877, by Venerable Mary Potter, the LCM spirit was carried to Australia in 1885 by six courageous young women inspired by the founding vision.
In 1914, the LCM spirit in Aotearoa-New Zealand was implanted by Sisters sent from Australia. From New Zealand, Sisters shared that same founding spirit and the Little Company of Mary mission in Tonga was founded in 1975. Over all these years, in each of our three countries and beyond, the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary have lived their mission in the communities they serve.
Our lives continue to be dedicated to making visible the healing presence of Jesus in the midst of human suffering, wherever and however it is experienced, through lives committed to being for the suffering of the world, as Mary was for her Son, Jesus on Calvary, through prayer, compassion and presence.
Venerable Mary Potter had a vision for that Calvary spirit to live through the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary and through what she called, the Greater Company of Mary – the Associates, Affiliates and co-workers who share our journey of spirit and service.
