Towards the end of January and early February 2023 we shared in the spirit of joy by welcoming the Sisters in the Region of the Southern Cross from Australia and New Zealand to Tonga.
Region Leadership, Sr Kathleen Cotterill and Sr Monica Whelan and companions enjoyed the Celebration of my Golden Jubilee. A lovely time of remembering my 50 years of working in God’s vineyards.
The celebration took place on February 2nd 2023 at St John the Baptist Church, Pea, Nukalofa, Tonga. The church was beautifully decorated with colourful floral arrangements. There was a sense of sacred celebration as people moved in and out of the church.
The Jubilee Mass commenced at 11am led by a magnificent choir. Our spirit was uplifted in giving praise and thanksgiving to God for who we are, as People of God. The Livestreaming allowed many people to be part of this joyful occasion.
Sr Helenā Kivalu LCM gave a short welcome on behalf of the Sisters. Sr Kathleen Cotterill, Region Leader shared the life of myself as a Religious Sister of the Little Company of Mary.
Fr Taniela ‘Enosi my nephew was the main celebrant with Fr Falakiko Afu as co-celebrant and eight other priests. It was a beautiful liturgy. I renewed my Vows after the Homily, followed by a response from the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary who were present.
The second part of celebration was a meal prepared by my family, parishioners, and friends for everyone present. Entertainment of Tongan dances by my niece ‘Asela and the youth of Pea Parish were part of this time as well as songs and the sharing of stories. It was enjoyed by all who participated in the occasion.
Sr Fatafehi and Sr Helenā shared the role of Master of Ceremonies – well done. I was very grateful to Sr Fatafehi who organised a lovely folder on: “This Is Your Life”.
My sincere thank you to the LCM Sisters who were present at my jubilee and to the Sisters from afar for your prayers. Not forgetting my nieces from New Zealand and nephew and his wife from Australia who also celebrated with me. For me, I really enjoyed the day and all the people as they talked to me.
Last but not the least for me, my Golden Jubilee day was a very memorable event.
